The Show: THE PERFORMING ARTS FEST (conducted under the auspices of the Eisteddfod Association of North Queensland Inc.)
The Performing Arts Fest is a Choral Music Festival to entertain and delight with sections for choirs, soloists, duets, and ensembles which cover Musical Comedy, Cabaret, Jazz, Folk, Sacred, Lieder, Modern, Instrumental, Speech and Drama and will showcase a wealth of talent with competitors from as far north as Cairns and the Tablelands and as far south as Brisbane. There are many sections for Adults as well as sections for young man and young ladies over the age of 14years and youth choirs.
Other than the Choral Sections which will provide competition between choirs from Townsville, Cairns, Mackay and Innisfail, the other prestigious sections of the Festival for soloists are the Operatic Aria Contest which carries Trophy and prize monies of $400, Solo from any Stage Musical, Rock Opera or Operetta which carries Trophy and prize monies of $400, Lieder, Art Song or French Melodie Open which carries prize monies of $350.
The Evening Session on Easter Saturday commencing at 7pm will highlight ‘Gala Night of Musical Theatre’ which will include Solo from Musical Comedy, Folk Singing Groups, Cabaret, Character Portrayal and Novelty Choruses. A great night of exceptional entertainment.
The two Adjudicators for Music are Mr. Ian Harrison of Melbourne and Mr. William Hawkey of Akolele in NSW and Mrs. Glenys Perry of Townsville for Speech and Drama.
It is envisaged the Performing Arts Fest will attract to Townsville on the Easter weekend approximately 1000 competitors and visitors from all centres in North Queensland — Cairns, Mackay, Innisfail, Burdekin and Townsville.
