The Black River Bluegrass Band was originally formed to compete in the Charters Towers Country Music Festival ten years ago. Jennifer Hultgren, banjo, fiddle banjo, guitar and vocals: Terry McCarthy, mandolin, fiddle banjo, guitar and vocals: Barry Davidson, guitar: Bunjie Nichols, bass.
They have dominated the Bluegrass Section of the Charters Towers Country Music Festival for the last three years and have been placed in the instrumental section on many occasions. They appear at Festivals in Townsville, Atherton, and the Burdekin and were guests at the “Top Half Fold Fest” in Mount Isa.
Their love of the country life and natural acoustic instruments come from the Stanley Bros & Bill Monroe – the band’s inspiration.
