The Theatre Royal was the first to open on 19 August 1869 under the management of the well-known actor Thomas Fawcett. One of the first programmes offered was a concert by Madame Carandini, Miss Rosina Carandini, Miss Fannie Carandini, and Mr Walter Sherwin.
